We can definitely feel the Christmas spirit in the air as we count down the last 15 days! It’s even beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at Lexis Brisbane!! 🙂
With that in mind, the Christmas festivities in and around Brisbane are starting and there is plenty to see and do this weekend! Read on!
Who was in King George Square when they had the first lighting of the Christmas tree? Well starting this Friday (11/12/15) and running every night until Christmas Eve is the Gold Lotto City Hall Light Spectacular. The City Hall will come alive every night at 7:30pm with an array of colourful displays and projections and will light up every 15 minutes until the clock strikes midnight. It truly is beautiful, so if you’re ever in the city late at night, be sure to take a photo!! (And send me your best shots!)
The annual Brisbane Christmas Parade is also starting this Friday and running every night until the 20th of December. You can watch the parade from 6:30pm, which starts from the Edward Street end of the Queen Street mall. The parade will travel up the mall and finish in King George Square, where they will then have a pantomime performance.
This weekend also marks the start of the South Bank Christmas Markets! Grab some last minute Christmas presents for yourself, your friends and family down in the Christmas Gift Giving Lane, and for just a gold coin donation ($1/$2) you can have your gifts wrapped. Entry to the markets is free and all proceeds go towards charity. Why not grab some late night Christmas pudding while you’re there too? (yum!!)
Do you love singing along to your favourite Christmas Carols every year? Then why don’t you get together with your friends and come along to the IGA Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols event at the Brisbane Riverstage this Saturday 12th of December. Hosted by Channel 9, this much loved annual event is a big favourite with the residents of Brisbane. You might even get on TV!! 🙂 This event is free but you can make donations on the night which will go towards the Mater Hospital’s Little Miracles Foundation. There will even be a surprise guest dressed in red and white who will be making an appearance – can you guess who? 🙂
One of my favourite parts about Christmas is driving around our beautiful city looking at all the pretty Christmas lights. Some of you may not have access to a car – so this is where this event comes in!! The Brisbane City Council have organised nightly bus tours to take you around different suburbs of Brisbane city who are competing in the Radio 4KQ Christmas Lights Competition! There are some pretty amazing houses out there – even entire neighbourhoods join together to make a beautiful display just for you to look at. 🙂 Here’s a picture of last year’s winner for Brisbane North region:
You have a choice of which region of Brisbane you want to see (North, South, East or Western suburbs), all with different departure points. The bus tours start on Monday 14th of December and run every night until the 18th of December.

Tickets MUST be pre-purchased online. You can do so by clicking here. Adults are $22 and concession price is $11 – so remember to take your student card as proof!!
If you didn’t have plans for this weekend I hope you do now! 🙂 Be merry, be safe and enjoy the weekend! 🙂
