Warm up for the first weekend of Winter by checking out some local events happening in our wonderful city! There’s something for everyone! 🙂
There’s a new cafe that has just opened in Queen Street – but this is no regular cafe. It’s a STAR WARS themed cafe!! :O This is Brisbane’s first ever Star Wars cafe to open its doors, and we’re super excited! At the front door, you’ll be greeted with a giant inflatable R2-D2 along with a sign that says “This is the cafe you’ve been looking for”. Ahhh how cool is that?! Be sure to drop in if you need a coffee, a snack, or even if you’re just curious!
Death Star Canteen
Address: 359 Queen St, Brisbane
Opening Hours: Mon-Fri @ 6am-4:30pm | Sat @ 8am-2pm
The Queensland Cabaret Festival returns this Friday and runs until June 12th. An array of colourful and entertaining shows will be available to watch at popular venues such as QPAC and the Brisbane Powerhouse. If you’re a fan of Broadway and of course Cabaret, you will not want to miss this! To see what’s on and to secure your tickets, visit the official website here.
Lego fans of Brisbane, listen up! The Brisbricks Lego Fan Expo 2016 is on again this year, returning for another fun-filled weekend at the Strathpine Community Centre. This year’s theme is “Back to the Future 3”, so keep an eye out for those Marty McFly and DeLorean Lego pieces! Tickets must be bought online prior to attending, which you can do here.
Do your part to help those in need by participating in the Mater Little Miracles 5ks Walk this Sunday to help raise money for seriously ill and prematurely born babies. All the funds raised on the day, as well as those from ticket sales will be donated to the Mater Hospital and will go towards helping thousands of mums and their newborn babies. The event kicks off at 9am Sunday morning down by the South Bank Forecourt. You can sign up on their official website here.
We have a couple of pop-up food truck days this Sunday afternoon; one of which is being held over in the Mt Coot-Tha Botanic Gardens from 12-3pm. There will be live music, plenty of entertaining activities as well as – of course, the food trucks! My personal favourite food truck “King of the Wings” will be making an appearance. They specialise in American style buffalo wings, and they are AH-MAY-ZING! Definitely worth a look! You can get to the Botanic Gardens by car or bus, (Adelaide St: Stop 40 – Bus #471). Check out the Facebook event here.
The other pop-up food truck event is being held a little closer to the CBD over in Newstead. Sunday by the River will not only bring you cheap, awesome food, but they’ll also entertain you with free live jazz music. Why not take a blanket, some chairs and of course your friends, and spend Sunday afternoon the way it should be spent – by relaxing and enjoying quality time! 🙂 Facebook event page here.
The best thing about Winter in Brisbane is that it doesn’t really exist! 😛 But don’t be so fooled. On the odd occasion, we do experience that bone-chilling breeze that comes from the Brisbane River, (this week has been particularly bad)! So be sure to wear warm, covered clothing if you plan on walking around, and stock up on warm drinks! 🙂 It’s also a good idea to check the weather before planning your trip, so that you don’t get caught unprepared. The BOM website is great for checking the weather, keeping up-to-date with storm warnings and you can even watch where it is raining on the Rain Radar.
That’s it for now. Have a fantastic weekend! See you all next week! 😀
