What’s an RSA, and do I need one??
You might have seen the acronym RSA popping up all over the place, particularly when it comes to hospitality jobs. RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) is required by law to work with and around alcohol all throughout Australia. Even if you are not working in a bar, you are still often required to have one, as most venues are licensed.
Some companies will let you apply for the job without an RSA, but you should get it as soon as possible. Some companies may even help pay for the course!🙂 That’d be lucky! Just ask your new employer about your options – they are there to help!
There are a few websites where you can take the RSA course; a popular one being The Hospitality Institute of Australasia. They offer courses from as little as $18. Click herefor more information. (Please note: Make sure to register for a QUEENSLAND [QLD] RSA, as this is the correct qualification for our state).

Last Wednesday, a group of our Lexis medical professionals visited Life Flight’s helicopter base at Archerfield Aerodrome with their teacher Catherine.
Life Flight have over 130 medical crew and they perform over 4000 patient transfers a year! They attend to incidents such as natural disasters – particularly during the flood seasons, and even rescuing people stranded out at sea.
The aim of this trip was to understand how people in and around Brisbane are transported to hospital by helicopter in an emergency situation. Teacher Catherine took the students here as part of the Accident and Emergency unit; the unit they are currently studying in the EMP/OET course at Lexis Brisbane.
The group also got to see various rescue helicopters ranging in size, from the tiny “Squirrel” – which is used for training purposes, all the way to the massive $20 million AW139‘s!
This excursion was a great opportunity for our students, who are all practicing medicine back home in their countries. It gave them the opportunity to compare their own services with those used in Australia, and in particular – Queensland. What a fantastic idea, Catherine! We hope you all had fun!! 🙂
