Congratulations to all our beautiful students who are graduating today. We will be sad to see you all leave.
Best of luck to you all ❤
In this week’s edition of Testimonial Wednesdays, we would like to introduce Mingu, or known as Kevin to us and his mates! 🙂
Kevin is one of our lovely students from South Korea who studied General English with us for over 6-months! :O
He has big dreams and wants to live in and see as much of Australia as possible, so he decided to pack up and continue his studies in Lexis Noosa. On the 19th of June, he will commence the Cambridge First Preparation (FCE) course. Go Kevin!! 🎉 🎈
We had a chat with Kevin about his time in Brisbane and about his plans for the future. Here’s what he had to say…:
Why did you choose to come to Brisbane and are you happy with your choice?
I chose Brisbane because I heard that the weather was nice. I had a good experience living here and enjoyed it a lot.
What did you think of your teachers and classes?
All of my teachers were very kind. They always helped me when I didn’t understand something. I learned a lot because of them.
Did you live alone or with friends during your stay?
I came to Brisbane alone, so I lived alone at first. But then I moved to a share house.
Did you participate in the Lexis Homestay Program/Student Accommodation?
No I didn’t, but I think living in student house is better than living by yourself. You get to meet a lot of new people and it will be easier to make friends.
What do you like most about Brisbane/Australia?
What is your most memorable experience here?
Before coming here, I couldn’t speak any English. But studying at Lexis has helped me meet and practice the language with people from all over the world.
Did you have a job while you were studying? Was it difficult to find a job?
Yes, but only a casual job. It is impossible to find a full-time job while you are a student. There are a lot of Korean people and shops in Brisbane, so for me it was easy. I had many jobs – food delivery, cleaner, even working at a golf club picking up golf balls! 🙂
Do you have any advice for your classmates or new students studying English?
DO YOUR BEST!! Even though I am guilty of not doing this… 😛
What is your plan for the future, and will you continue learning and using your English?
After I return home, I will apply for another visa and come back to Australia to live and save my money! English is a very important skill to have, especially when finding a job, so I will continue to use it.
We are so proud of your efforts, Kevin, and we look forward to hearing about your adventures up north in Noosa! Please come and say hi to us if you are ever back in Brisbane. From all of us here at Lexis Brisbane – DO YOUR BEST!!! ❤ ❤
Today we say farewell to our dear Academic Manager Zoe!
Zoe has been with Lexis for 11 years!! She started her journey as a bright young teacher at Lexis Noosa in 2006, before moving back to Brisbane to teach. From there, she started working at Lexis Brisbane and went on to become the Academic Manager. Zoe has grown with the company throughout the years, and is truly a big part of the Lexis family.
Today, all the staff at Lexis Brisbane gathered in the kitchen to celebrate over delicious pizzas and snacks to farewell our wonderful Zoe! 🍕 ❤️ Needless to say, it was delicious!!!
You will be missed not only by your colleagues, but by all the students and helpers at Lexis whom you’ve helped grow, succeed and gotten to know over the years. Thanks so much for your many years of service, and all the best for your future endeavours! 😘😘
We said farewell to another #LexisFamily member today. Someone very special who has been studying at Lexis for a year!! 😀 Let’s meet Marika! Marika is originally from Japan. Her first day at Lexis Brisbane was on the 22nd of February 2016! On her first day, Marika was very nervous and only had a Pre-Intermediate level of English. She finished today, with an Upper Intermediate, Grade A level, and has also completed 19 weeks of Cambridge FCE!! 🙂
We asked Marika some questions about her time here in Australia, so keep on reading to see what she had to say!
What courses did you study at Lexis while you were here?
I started in Pre-Intermediate, and completed both Intermediate and Upper-Intermediate. I have also finished the Cambridge FCE course.
Did you go to more than one Lexis school?
I went to Brisbane and Sunshine Coast campuses.
What did you think of your classes and teachers?
Super good!! 🙂
Why did you choose to come to Brisbane? Are you happy with your choice?
Brisbane is not as busy as Melbourne, but also not too quiet. Everything is so convenient. I think Brisbane is the best city in Australia to live in!
Where did you live while you were here?
I lived with an Aussie family at first, but then moved to my own place.
Did you work while you were studying?
No I didn’t have a job… 😦
What do you like most about Brisbane/Australia?
The weather! Brisbane has warm weather all throughout the year.
What is your most memorable experience in Brisbane/Australia?
I can’t choose only one! All of my memories are unforgettable! I’ve been to Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Moreton Island, Fraser Island, etc… 🙂 But I did also enjoy meeting many nationalities at Lexis. They made my Aussie Life WONDERFUL!!
What are your plans for when you return home?
I’m going back to Japan to finish my university degree. But I plan on coming back to Australia after this!
We are so very proud of your achievements, Marika, and you should be too! 👍👍 Marika has plans to come back to Australia in August, so until then – good luck and we will see you again! ❤ ❤
If you or someone you know would like to get involved with writing a testimonial, please have a chat with Tara at Reception!
Have a great weekend, everyone! 😀
Everyone, meet the lovely Asumi! 🙂 Asumi has been with us here at Lexis Brisbane for 8 weeks, and unfortunately we have to say goodbye to her tomorrow! 😦 Asumi brought such positive energy to her classes and everyone admired her hard work!
During her stay here in Brisbane, Asumi accomplished many things. Her most treasured memory was when she volunteered at this year’s Ekka. Asumi applied through the Queensland Cancer Council’s recruitment agency, and was accepted to lend a helping hand at the show. “I helped for 2 days from 8:30am until 12:30pm. My job was to hand out Ekka show maps, and sell fundraising badges”. Asumi really enjoyed her time helping the public and raising money for a good cause. “I was often asked for directions, and it felt good to show them around. I felt so lucky to share this experience with my team members”.
We sat down with Asumi today and asked her some other questions about Brisbane and her experience at Lexis. Take a look below at what she had to say.
What course did you study at Lexis?
I was in the Pre-Intermediate General English course.
What do you think of your classes and teachers?
I think the classes are good! Both my classmates and teachers are very kind.
Why did you choose Brisbane? Are you happy with your choice?
I heard that Brisbane was a very comfortable place to live. I’m really happy with my choice.
Do you live close to the city?
Yes, I live close to the city. I share a house with other students.
Did you ever participate in our homestay program? What did you think about it?
Yes, I lived in homestay for about 6 weeks. It was very interesting, and my host family were very kind. 🙂
What do you like most about Brisbane?
The people here are very kind! Everyone is always so friendly! 😀
What are your plans for when you return to Japan?
I would like to work with foreign people.
We’re so happy for what you’ve achieved during your stay, Asumi! We hope you continue to make more wonderful memories in the future! ❤ ❤
We love hearing about our Lexis Family success stories, so if you would like to feature in one of our Student Testimonials, just come and see Tara at Reception! 🙂
We had some old friends come to visit Lexis Brisbane yesterday! Please meet the ever-so-adorable Masataka and Yuumi from Japan!
Masataka and Yuumi were students here at Lexis (formerly known as Shane Global Village) 4 and a half years ago. To them, SGV felt more like home rather than a school, and as they spent quite a bit of time here they thought it would be a nice surprise to drop in and see how everyone was going! How lovely!
Some of the teachers/staff they got to know are still here at Lexis today. Everyone had a lot of fun catching up and reminiscing about the good old days – even our Student Support staff member Robyn got in on the fun reinacting an old photo! 😀
Masataka and Yuumi didn’t know each other prior to coming to Australia, but when they first met at SGV they hit it off straight away! 🙂 Over the years, they became very close and recently they made things official by getting married. They thought it would make sense to come back to Brisbane to get married as this is where their hearts first met – awwww! ❤ Unfortunately the local church in the city was closed for construction, so they decided to have their wedding ceremony down on the beach of the beautiful Gold Coast.
🙂 Congratulations to you both!! 🙂
We LOVE seeing successful stories come out of Lexis, and this story just shows that even true love can be found in the most random of places! We also love hearing from and seeing all of our students – recent and old; so please come and visit us again if life ever brings you back to our beautiful Brisbane. ❤
Thanks for visiting Masataka and Yuumi! All the best for your future together! 🙂
