Meet Sarah Murphy – Brisbane’s front desk superstar ⭐

 I believe you all have already met – Sarah. She has joined our #LexisFamily in September so I think that’s about the time to get to know her a little bit closer.

At 11am on Saturday, you’ll find me shopping or checking out new trail walks around Brisbane.

At 8 am on a Sunday, you’ ll find me relaxing at home on my balcony with my dog and a cup of tea.

My dream holiday destination is (ohhh, so hard!!!) Maldives or Santorini, Greece.

The best restaurant in Brisbane is Breakfast Creek Hotel.  It has different restaurants and beautiful outdoor area.

When you are in Brisbane, don’t miss foot-golf in Mt Gravatt then to the markets next door for some yummy food and a drink.

I can speak 3 different Languages English, Japanese and a little Korean

When you were growing up, what did you want to be?
I wanted to be a teacher growing up

Eat- Street markets in Hamilton. Amazing Food

I’m a twin

At 11pm on a Saturday, where will we find you?
Most likely in bed asleep, but occasionally I’ll be out dancing with my friends

What about at 8am on Sunday morning?
Asleep! Sundays are for sleep-ins.

Where is your dream holiday destination?
So hard to choose! But i’d love to go to Hawaii

Maru Korean Restaurant on Elizabeth street 😋🍴

What’s your English learning tip for your students?
Use the language! The more you speak & practice the language the more you will improve. Especially if you continue to use it outside the classroom 🙂  

🎈 Meet Our New Academic Manager – Sylvester!! 🎈

As most of you may already know, we have a new face in the Academic Manager’s Office. We are pleased to announce the newest friendly face to the Lexis team – Sylvester! 🙂

Sylvester has been with Lexis Brisbane for a about a month and has already settled in nicely. He has over 25 years of experience in the education industry which includes teaching English over in Japan! He lived in the sister-city of Kobe for 6 years and has since settled down here in Brisbane with his family.

Along with his infectious laugh and smile, he would love to bring in some positive changes to Lexis which includes a new found love and appreciation for the English language! His open-door policy allows anyone who needs help or those who just want to have a chat and practice their English to go in at any time.

Hello and welcome back to another Meet the Teachers blog! This week, we get to meet the wonderful Mitzi!!

Mitzi is known at Lexis for her calm nature and FANTASTIC fashion sense! 😍 😍 She started at Lexis just over a year ago soon after she received her CELTA certificate, and has become a big part of the Lexis Family since. She is also our regular ‘Out & About’ Option Class teacher who knows all the best spots in Brisbane.

We asked Mitzi a few questions about herself, so read on to see what she had to say!


What languages can you speak?
English, Italian, French and a tiny bit of Portuguese.

When you were little, what did you always dream of becoming?
An actress!

What’s one thing you love most about Brisbane?
All the beautiful people I meet. 🙂

What’s your favourite colour?
💛 Yellow! 💛

At midnight on a Saturday, where can we find you?
Most likely in bed asleep, but occasionally I’ll be out dancing with my friends.

What about at 7pm on a Sunday night?
Having dinner with my family.

Who is your superhero?
Jessica Jones!

Describe our beautiful city in one word:
Easy!

Where is somewhere in Brisbane you’d recommend visitors to go?
GOMA (The ‘Gallery of Modern Art’).

What is your #1 English learning tip for students?
Read books in English. Start with one chapter at a time. The first time, read without a dictionary and underline words you don’t know. The second time, go through with a dictionary.

I wanted to be an interior designer.

The fact that you can legally drink in New Farm Park! (you’re welcome) 😜

Cronuts are the GREATEST food product known to man!

At 11pm on a Saturday, where will we find you?
Asleep in my bed. (definitely NOT snoring though!!)

What about at 8am on Sunday morning?
Having coffee with friends.

Where is your dream holiday destination?
Portugal.

Have any favourite restaurants to recommend in Brisbane?
It’s a three-way-tie between Quan Thanh, My Thai and Vegerama. 😋🍴

What is something our students should do while in Brisbane?
Definitely go out for a night at the Eat Street Markets! If you don’t have a car, you can also get there by City Hopper. (although it’s a little bit of a walk).

What’s your English learning tip for your students?
Just speak English! It’s okay to make mistakes, but you have to try. People will appreciate your effort and you’ll be more motivated to talk.

Welcome back to another Meet the Teachers! This week, we meet the wonderful Luke! 😀 Luke is one of our newest teachers here at Lexis Brisbane. He is currently teaching our Beginner class in the afternoon, and is doing such a great job! I like the general laid-back vibe this city has!

I’ll be on the couch relaxing, watching a movie.

Probably just finishing a Sunday evening run.

Who is your ultimate superhero?
Hmm.. I can’t pick one, because ALL of my students are my superheros!!

Describe Brisbane in 1 word:
Balmy!

What would you recommend students to do while in Brisbane?
Definitely watch the sunrise from the summit of Mount Coot-tha.

Do you have any English learning tips for everyone?
Talk, talk, TALK! Practice your English by talking to as many people as possible. Talk to your classmates, talk to your teachers, talk to your neighbours!
