JUNE 17 Activities

It’s all about markets this weekend!

This weekend, various locations around Brisbane will be setting up their stalls ready to sell all their wonderful gifts, trinkets and keepsakes! I’ve rounded up a few of the more popular markets popping up this weekend, so if you’re interested, keep on reading! 😀
Markets

The Brisbane Twilight Market is making its return this Friday night over in King George Square. The Winter Festival is still running as well, so why not grab yourself a bargain, then celebrate by going ice-skating on the man-made ice rink. The best thing about it? It’s right across the road from Lexis! 🙂
– Fridays: 4pm to 9pm.

This might be a good one for those of you who live in Brisbane’s southwestern suburbs, or those who feel like a bit of a road trip after school. Located at the Rocklea Showgrounds, the Oz Night Markets brings you over 100 stalls specialising in local food, arts & crafts and fun! Join in the fun at this family-friendly event that runs every Friday night.

A little closer to the CBD in South Bank every weekend is the Collective Markets, whose stall holder’s focus is more on arts & crafts, fashion and design. Make your way over to the Stanley Street Plaza on:
– Fridays: 5pm to 9pm
– Saturdays: 10am to 9pm
– Sundays: 9am to 4pm

Right next door in Brisbane’s West End, are the weekly Boundary Street Markets. This old building was actually the original Peter’s ice-cream factory dating back to the 1920’s, but now it’s home to one of Brisbane’s most popular social gatherings. Head on over to enjoy hours of endless entertainment, food and embrace the local culture of West End.
– Fridays: 5pm to 10pm
– Saturdays: 5pm to 10pm

If you haven’t been or even heard of Eat Street Markets, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Don’t make any plans this weekend – instead go here! Down by the old Portside docks on the Brisbane River, large shipping containers have been transformed into an Asian inspired marketplace, offering everything from fresh food, live entertainment and even a drive-in cinema! They’re still a relatively “new” marketplace, but every weekend, the streets are guaranteed to be lined with hundreds of cars and people making their way in. So, what’re you waiting for? Check it out!
– Fridays: 4pm to 10pm
– Saturdays: 4pm to 10pm
* Markets will also be running on Sundays during the Winter months. Keep up-to-date via their Facebook page.

An old university precinct on Brisbane’s northside comes alive every Saturday with their very own marketplace. The Carseldine Farmer’s Markets at the former QUT Carseldine Campus have a large range of international food stalls, arts & crafts and a very impressive fresh fruit and vegetables section. Go along and support our local farmers who work very hard to bring us yummy produce every day.

The Gap Farmer’s Winter Twilight Markets are on again this Sunday afternoon/evening over at Hilder Road State School. This fortnightly event is a must-do for all market lovers; it starts later than most traditional markets to make the most of the magical light of dusk, that brings with it its festival atmosphere. There’s expected to be over 100 market stalls showcasing the very best local talent and products, as well as two stages filled with live entertainment and activities. Definitely check it out if you have time!

This weekend should be a little dryer than the last, so make the most of the outdoors and our beautiful Brisbane Winter days! But make sure to wear nice warm clothing, because we’re expecting a cold front over the next few days. Saturday, we’re expecting temperatures of around 6 degrees in the morning, which is like the second coming of the ice age, (according to Brisbane-ites)!! 😛 What ever it is you choose to do, have fun and plan ahead! See you all next week!! 😀
